Inria pilots since 2024 the French Program Agency for digital science and technology (software, algorithms and usages), including the coordination of the research national strategy for Artificial Intelligence since 2018. This mission is organised with key national research players, including Universities, other national research institutes (such as CNRS and CEA), as well as the nine AI-Clusters.

Why do researchers from around the world choose France for their research in IA ?

Why choose France?

The President Emmanuel Macron has announced on May 5th the launch of Choose France for Science, a program aimed at attracting international researchers. This initiative ambitions to target talented researchers from around the world, highlighting favourable conditions to welcome men and women in France. This initiative includes the AI Faculty program announced in February 2025 during the AI Action Summit organized in Paris.

Inria and 15 partner universities invite you to join the French academic excellence ecosystem in computer science and AI!

Inria, the French national research institute for computer science and AI, and 15 key French Research Universities are looking to recruit outstanding senior or young senior scientists in computer science and applied mathematics, especially in Artificial Intelligence (in the broadest sense), Cybersecurity, and Quantum Computing.

The candidates must have outstanding international recognition. A condition for applying is that the candidate currently holds a permanent position outside of France. There is no nationality requirement. The candidate can be from academia or from companies, including Tech startups. As the objective of the program is to strengthen French national resources in computer science, it is expected that the candidate will settle permanently in France.

The successful candidates will be given a faculty position in a French research university (including the ones driving the nine AI Clusters in the field of AI) and/or a permanent research position at one of the nine Inria research centers in France[1] . Career opportunities with attractive salaries are available across France.

The position will be endowed with a Chair. This Chair comes with a 3-year package sufficient to conduct autonomous research and innovation projects and to cover the recruitment of PhD students, post-doctoral fellows and engineers.

Particular attention will be paid to the following qualities: international recognition and scientific leadership; ability to open up new avenues of research and innovation, or create new disciplines; creativity, originality, and open-mindedness; ability to lead a team of permanent and non-permanent high-level researchers and engineers; desire to develop a sustainable activity in the French ecosystem and in Europe ; ability to interact with economic stakeholders, to stimulate innovation and potentially support the creation of Tech startups in France.

To facilitate the chairs’ arrival in France, human resources (HR) departments will be available to help settle the candidate and candidate’s family, including relocation services and job search support for a spouse or partner.

Inria and the 15 involved French Universities are committed to improving the diversity among their members. Women and other underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Inria and the French Universities are equal opportunity employers.

Inria is managing this “Choose France for Science”/”AI Faculty” recruitment program in computer science and AI as the French Program Agency for digital science and technology and as the coordinator of the French research AI strategy.

  • To apply, email the following documents to choose-france-application@inria.fr:
    • Cover letter; CV ; Description of research experience and research plans (4 pages maximum);
    • Description of teaching experience and goals (2 pages maximum, if you desire a position in a university and/or a joint appointment with a university).

[1] If recruited at Inria, successful candidates may join an existing project or propose the creation of a new one.
